Week 7 – Pretty Memo Pegs

Well it’s Week 7 of our Christmas Make projects, which means Christmas is galloping towards us!!  This project is beautifully simple and effective, customising wooden pegs to use as pretty magnetic memo holders, ideal to brighten up your fridge or memo board, and a lovely small gift or stocking filler.

You will need:
4 – 6 x wooden pegs (usually come in packs of 24 so you can make a few sets!)
Scraps of pretty material or wrapping paper
PVA Glue
small self-adhesive magnets (Available from craft shops/DIY stores/Ebay)
Small pieces of stiff card
Co-ordinating ribbon (optional)

Step 1: Choose a selection of pretty wrapping paper, serviettes or light material to use as the front of your pegs
Step 2: Carefully cut out long strips of material/paper slightly smaller by aprox 1mm than the  length and width of the front of your wooden peg.
Step 3: Using PVA glue, stick the paper/material onto the front of each peg and leave to dry for at least 2 hours.
Step 4: Use a variety of different designs, making sets of either 4,6 or more pegs in the same or matching designs which you can give away as a set.
Step 5. Once your pegs are dry, carefully attach a small self-adhesive magnet (readily available at DIY/craft stores/Ebay) to the back of each peg, exactly in the middle. See opposite and images below.

Step 6:  Using stiff plain card, cut out a backing card aprox. the same size as the length and width of your first “set” of matching pegs.  Cover this in the same or co-ordinating material on the upward facing side, using PVA glue.  Set aside to dry.
Step 7:  Attach all of your pegs to the backing board in a neat line, and secure with a matching/co-ordinating ribbon to create a pretty and neat display.
Step 8:  You have now made a pretty and practical gift – well done!
The magnetic pegs will attach to fridges, noticeboards or any magnetic surface to hold paperwork, photos, memo’s etc.
